Twenty Tabor College musicians — 14 singers and six accompanists — attended the West Central Region Association of Teachers of Singing student auditions Friday and Saturday at Fort Hays State University.
Senior Clarissa Berglund, soprano, student of Holly Swartzendruber, and accompanied by senior Benjamin Heyen advanced to the semifinal round.
David Vogel, tenor, student of Bradley Vogel, and accompanied by senior Maria Loewen qualified for the finals, placing fifth overall.
The NATS competition, an annual event, drew 321 vocalists from colleges and universities in Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming.
Other competing Tabor singers included Aaron Stepanek, Rebecca Friesen, Lauren Just, Kelsey Unruh, Jessica Coldwell, Aaron Brooks, Scott Morrow, Sydney Couglin, Trevor Morris, Sara Sagner, and Andrea Acker.
