Volleyball teams saw greatly improved results in their second weeks of play, particularly Marion.

Marion was 3-0 in a modified Centre tournament, with their portion being a quad at Hope. The Warriors dropped just two sets the whole day, and in the six sets they won only allowed an average of 15.8 points.

Marion opened with a win against Wichita Homeschool 25-11, 25-11. The Warriors lost the first set to Berean Academy 25-11, before winning the next two sets 25-17, 25-17. The Warriors closed play by winning the first set against Rural Vista 25-22. They dropped the second set 25-15 to the Heat, and then rebounded to win the last set 25-17.

Centre fared well at home, going 2-1 on the day. The Cougars opened with a loss to Herington 25-16, 25-11, but rebounded well. The home team beat Wichita Classical 25-14, 25-12, and then Little River 25-18, 27-25.

Hillsboro was another team that found great results, going 3-0 and winning all its sets in a tournament at Southeast of Saline.

Hillsboro dominated the hosts, beating SES 25-7, 25-19. The Trojans then beat Abilene 25-17, 25-18, and closed their day by defeating Salina South 35-14, 25-18.

Goessel volleyball won its first three matches Saturday at its home tournament, opening play by coming back from down 20-23 to beat Moundridge 32-30. After losing the second set 25-13, Goessel closed out the match with a 26-24 third-set victory.

The Bluebirds defeated Burrton 25-20, 25-19, and Central Christian 25-18, 25-17, before losing 25-18, 25-13 to Moundridge in the championship.

Peabody-Burns did not experience the same good fortune as Marion County’s other teams. The Warriors lost to Elyria Christian 25-13 in the first set and then had a heartbreaking 25-23 second-set loss.

The Warriors rebounded well Monday, winning at Yates Center, 25-22 in the first set and 25-15 in the third, despite dropping the second set 25-23.
