MARION:   Warrior boys will have to develop scoring

Staff writer

Among five seniors, the Marion High School boys’ basketball team lost its top two scorers in Jacob Harper and Jordan Hett from the 2012-13 season.

Last year, the Warriors finished the season with a 16-6 overall record, losing in the second round of sub-state to Sacred Heart High School.

Head coach Jeff McMillin said the team has high expectations regardless of what it lost from last season.

“We lost a lot of scoring last year, but we have a good nucleus from that team back,” he said.

McMillin said he believed returners on the team that were more passive in the past would be able to adapt to a aggressive mentality to take more shots.

He also mentioned returning senior guards Taylor Heidebrecht and Zach Robson and forward James Jones will take on more leadership responsibilities after playing smaller roles last season.

Jared Hague and Tim Knolla also will provide leadership as seniors, and juniors Jacob Baldwin and Brett Voth will contribute as well.

“The chemistry is really good,” McMillin said. “We have a team that’ll play hard, and have good depth up top and in the post.”
