Warriors 2nd at SpikeFest

Marion, hosts for SpikeFest featuring eight schools Saturday, ended up as tournament runner-up.
Halstead was the number one seed and stayed that way till the end, beating Marion in the championship match, 2-0.
They were the Warriors’ only losses for the day. Marion beat Eureka, Berean, Central Christian, and Lyons in the pool play.
“I feel like we improved as a team throughout the day,” coach Keri Collett said.”I feel like we played our butts off. And if we can continue this, these girls are going to do really well this year.”
Grace Hett and Kenna Wesner were named to the all-tournament Team.
A player who surprised Collett was sophomore Shaliah Ensley.
“Shes a good setter, but then she just stuffs people (on blocks). And that excitement she gets after that happens is very electric for the team,” Collett said.
The Warriors will be back home Tuesday to play against Remington.
Goessel
Goessel traveled to Centre for two league matches last week.
The Bluebirds defeated Centre 25-11, 25-17. Against Elyria Christian, Goessel lost in a three set decision; 25-13, 21-25, 21-25.
Goessel played two non-league matches Thursday at Moundridge. The Bluebirds defeated 3A Chaparrel 13-25, 25-18, 25-21 and then defeated 3A Douglass 25-22, 25-13.
The Bluebirds’ record is now 9-4 overall and 3-1 in Wheat State League games.
Goessel will play at Canton-Galva on Tuesday and participate in a tough tournament Saturday at Olpe.
Centre
It took until the seventh-place contest with Eureka, but the Centre finally got a victory.
The Cougars defeated the Tornadoes in three sets, 25-19, 12-25, and 25-17. They are now 2-12 on the season.
In pool play, Centre, which was seeded eighth, faced top-seed Halstead in the first game of the day.
The Cougars lost in two sets, 8-25 and 13-25. They went on to lose to Douglass, 8-25 and 16-25, and Lyons, 18-25 and 7-25.
