Waterline upgrades near completion

After months of work, Hillsboro’s waterline upgrades are nearly complete.

Some dug-up sections of road have become sodden with water from recent rains, causing the project to take longer, city administrator Larry Paine said.

“It’s muddy, yucky dirt, and we can’t work in it,” he said. “That’s the problem we’re having right now. Rain is keeping us from getting that done.”

Paine said work could be finished in three weeks, but said some sections, like the corner of Grandview Ave. and Ash St. could be done in less than one.

The intersection is taking time because the pipe varies between 6” and 8”, Paine said.

“We really ought to not have that kind of constriction,” he said.

He said the city is taking its time and updating its maps as it finds inconsistencies in the waterlines

Finding inconsistencies like at Ash St. and Grandview Ave. demonstrates the importance of the city taking time and updating its maps with the project, Paine said.
