Clint Seibel, Hillsboro Development Corporation director and I were visiting Monday morning before the “sneak peek” of Southwestern Spas International. He made the comment that “connections” or knowing someone who knows someone are more valuable in bringing new businesses to Hillsboro than any other tool.
It is more effective than promoting the community at trade shows or websites in attempts to entice people to visit and/or live forever in Hillsboro.
That is so right. How many times have we heard, and this most recent venture is proof positive, of people returning to their hometowns to retire, try something new, or bring their businesses with them.
The “secret” to Hillsboro’s success is not only networking with former residents but maybe even more importantly, being prepared.
HDC and the City of Hillsboro are right on target when it comes to being prepared. Whenever an opportunity comes their way, they are poised and ready to react instead of standing around, wringing their hands, wondering what to do next.
Competent and skilled leadership certainly helps the cause as does good planning and teamwork.
Hillsboro could be the model or standard other cities should follow of how to do it right.
Good job and keep it up!
