Wilbur Hett

Wilbur A. Hett, 90, died March 2 at Hillsboro Community Hospital. He was born Oct. 30, 1923, to Alfred J. and Mary (Schlotthauer) Hett in Marion.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1941 then went into farming. He married Marjorie Jean Larsen on June 6, 1946, at Strassburg Baptist Church. They had a son, Alvin, and adopted a daughter, Marilyn.

He served on the Warren School District Board, Durham Cooperative Board, Flint Hills Rural Electric Association Board, and various church committees. After farming, he worked at the Lincolnville cooperative, Cooperative Grain & Supply, and for Dwight Kruse. He also did custodial work at Strassburg Baptist Church for many years.

Marjorie died in 1994. He married Florence (Hamm) Riffel on Sept. 2, 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; a son, Alvin Hett; a daughter, Marilyn Pembleton; a stepson, Rick Riffel; two stepdaughters, Norma Pschigoda and Mary Riffel; six grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

His funeral was Saturday at Strassburg Baptist Church. Interment was in Marion Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established with the church.
