William Johnson

William J. Johnson, 95, of Hillsboro, died April 23 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Born June 23, 1914, in Nolan, Mich., to Peter and Katherine (Janzen) Johnson, he was a chemistry professor at Tabor College, Hillsboro.

He married Georgina Kornelsen on Aug. 10, 1944, in Inman. She died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Carey of Lawrence; a daughter, Denise Hendrickson of Fort Smith, Ark.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday afternoon at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church of Hillsboro with the Rev. Steve Schroeder officiating.

Burial was in Gnadenau Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.

The William J. Johnson Scholarship Fund has been established in his memory.
