Winkler speaks to food bank representatives

Gene Winkler of Marion spoke about the transition of Marion County Food Bank from a room at Valley United Methodist Church to a new building on Main St. at a meeting last week in Garden City.

The meeting, sponsored by Sunflower Foundation and Kansas Food Bank, was attended by representatives of food banks in 31 counties.

“I want to tell you we have the greatest bunch of volunteers ever,” Winkler told the group. “They love to work in a new building and are able to help serve our neighbors that just need a little help with food.

“Now, with the high cost of food, sometimes people are having to make a hard choice between paying for medicine or purchasing food for the family. As a former EMT, I can tell you how important it is that food access be readily available for our vulnerable neighbors.”
