Woman dies in car crash

A rural Tampa woman died Friday afternoon as a result of a two-car collision on U.S.-56 near Marion.

Catherine Hajek, 79, 3280 Old Mill Road, Tampa, was a passenger in a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis passenger car which her husband, Martin R. Hajek, 84, of the same address, was driving.

According to Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil, the Hajeks were westbound on U.S.-56 near Eisenhower Drive/Timber Road at 1:27 p.m. Friday and turned south on Eisenhower Drive in front of a 1993 Oldsmobile 88 passenger car, driven by Nancy J. Perrin, 61, McPherson.

Catherine Hajek was transported by ambulance provided by LifeTeam of Great Bend to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, where she was pronounced dead. Hillsboro EMS transported Perrin and Marion EMS transported Martin Hajek, both to the Marion hospital.

Reportedly, Martin Hajek later was transported by air ambulance to a Wichita hospital. His condition was not known at press time.
