Wreck claims life of Marion man

Staff writer

A head-on wreck Saturday on US-50 at Peabody claimed the life of a Marion man and sent a Texas woman to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

According to the sheriff’s office, Frank M. Pecinovsky, 67, 116 Walnut St., was driving a 1991 Geo Tracker westbound at 7:05 a.m. when an oncoming 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage driven by Sandra K. Pierce, 60, McLennan, Texas, crossed the center line into Pecinovsky’s lane.

Emergency transmissions monitored by the newspaper indicate traffic was blocked both directions while Peabody firefighters worked to free Pecinovsky from his Geo.

Peabody, Marion, and Hillsboro ambulances all responded to the wreck.

Pecinovsky was breathing but had a weak pulse and apparent head injuries, emergency workers told dispatch. A Peabody EMT rode with Marion ambulance attendants to St. Luke Hospital, but Pecinovsky was declared dead.

Deputy Derek Fetrow’s accident report lists wind, inattentive driving, improper lane change, and driving the wrong way as factors in the wreck.

Pecinovsky formerly owned a farm implement business at Marion and more recently worked at Silverstone Agco in Hesston.
