The Trojans placed 10th of 20 teams Saturday at a Eureka wrestling tournament, scoring 65 points.
Coach Scott O’Hare said most brackets were very competitive and deep with talent.
Levi Mendoza was Hillsboro’s top wrestler, going 4-1 to place third in the 195-pound bracket.
At 16-6, Mendoza has been dominant against most opponents, O’Hare said, and seems to struggle only against top-tier wrestlers. However, he believes Mendoza is coming very close to “getting over the hump,” because most of his loses have gone into overtime.
Mac Bartel, Travis King, and Dawson Jost each placed fifth in their respective brackets. Franklin Jost placed sixth.
The Trojans take the mat again at 7 p.m. Thursday in a dual at Council Grove.
