Wrestlers place 5th at Ellis
3 Trojans place 2nd
The Hillsboro High School wrestling team placed fifth out of seven teams and three Trojans took second individually Friday at a round robin tournament in Ellis.
Hillsboro scored 110 points missing fourth place finisher Council Grove by just three points.
Coach Scott O’Hare was pleased with how his young team competed, even though he said they still had some fundamental and technical things to improve upon.
“They continue to battle hard,” he said. “Overall, they seem to be heading in the right direction.” We saw many improvements from the last meet, and our team was certainly attempting some of the things we had worked on in practice.”
William Spaich, Travis King, and Kyle Horton each took second in their weight brackets.
Spaich pinned one opponent, received a bye, and was pinned in the finals at 120 pounds.
King, a 145-pounder, received a bye, pinned two opponents, won by major decision 14-5, and lost by decision in the finals.
Horton logged four pins and was pinned once at 152 pounds.
Raymond Johnston and Kaden Ward each placed third in their brackets.
Johnston got three pins and was pinned twice, while Ward earned one pin and was pinned twice.
Jaden Priest went 2-3 to take fourth at 170 pounds.
Taryn Norstrom, a 152-pounder, and 160-pounder Lane Flaming each took fifth, while Dylan Horton went 0-5 to place sixth at 152 pounds.
