Wrestling club competes in Junction City
Hillsboro Wrestling Club competed Saturday in Junction City in the District III East Sub-District Tournament, the opening round of competition for the USA Wrestling-Kansas State Qualifying Series.
The top four finishers in each bracket automatically qualified for the District III tournament coming up Saturday in McPherson. The top four in that tournament will qualify for the state tournament March 29 and 30 in Topeka.

8 and younger
Anthony Fickes, 52 lbs., 1-2, did not place; Camden Padgett, 73 lbs., 3-0, first place; Connor Padgett, 88 lbs., 2-0, first place; and Lane Rogers, 88 lbs., 2-2, fifth place.
10 and younger
Garrett Helmer, 73 lbs., 2-2, fifth place; and Tristan Rathbone, 79 lbs., 2-2, fifth place.
12 and younger
Jordan Bachman, 84 lbs., 2-2, fourth place; and Raymond Jonhnston, 92 lbs., 0-3, fourth place.
14 and younger
Brodie Rathbone, 135 lbs., 0-2, did not place; Cyle Gautschi, 165 lbs., 4-0, first place; and Nathan Simhiser, 205 lbs., 1-2, third place.
High school
Travis King, 126 lbs., 2-2, fourth place; Jesse Meier, 170 lbs., 1-1, second place; and Levi Mendoza, 182 lbs., 1-3, fourth place.
On Sunday, club member Cyle Gautschi competed in the Kansas Middle School State Championships in Lindsborg. He placed fourth in the 171-lb. bracket, qualifying him to compete in the AAU Middle School National Duals in April in Des Moines, Iowa.
