Hillsboro's New Year's baby was born Jan. 22 to Doug and Sharon Loewen of rural Hillsboro. Brianna Kay weighed 7 pounds 1 1/2 ounces and was 19 1/4 inches long. She has two sisters, Stephanie and Amber.

The Hillsboro High School Trojans are 10-2 after sweeping through the Adoph Rupp Tournament for the second year in a row.

The Tabor college women's basketball team kept its dream alive to have two undefeated conference seasons back-back by winning two games last week. The victories put Tabor at 9-0 in the KCAC.

Salem Hospital, Inc. ended its fiscal year with a $41,296 loss. The hospital had a net profit of $31,479 but the home lost $72,775.

The Hillsboro Fire Department answered 45 alarms in 1991 and drove approximately 448 emergency miles. Sixteen men spent approximately 500 hours fighting fires and had approximately 410 hours of training.

The construction of an 1876 windmill in Hillsboro looks like it will become reality. In May or June a replica of the windmill made by Jacob Friesen and his son, Jacob J., will be erected south of the Adobe House Museum. Descendants of the Friesen family have donated $27,985 toward the estimated $35,000 needed to build the 30-foot structure.
