The parcel of land known as West Winds First Addition remains a part of Hillsboro. After hearing from the city's planning consultant and attorney, Hillsboro City Council members voted 4-0 to deny a request for deannexation submitted by the developers of the West Winds Limited partnership.

Don and Mary Weaver, Topeka, announce the engagement of their daughter, Wendy Weaver, to Todd Jost, son of Karl and Marilyn Jost of Hillsboro. She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in Topeka and attended Washburn University and the University of Kansas. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and the University of Kansas.

Curt Vajnar of Hays was presented three awards at the Agriculture Teachers' Association meeting in Manhattan. The awards were a Thirty Minute Club Award for publishing an article on gifted students in agricultural education; DVATA Young Professional Award for five years of vocational teaching; and The Outstanding Young Member Award for Kansas.

USD #410 school district valuation is up by almost $1 million from last year. The mill levy is 47.75, down from 47.76 last year.

Tabor College was awarded $30,000 worth of computer equipment by the IBM Corporation in recognition of gifts to the college by IBM employees and retirees totaling $10,000.
