Sarah J. Nickel will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house at the First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro from 2 to 4 p.m. Her children, Jeanette McMinn and Robert, Gerald and Cliff Nickel, are hosting the event.
Dale and Kay Klassen of rural Hillsboro announce the birth of their son, Aaron Matthew, born Jan. 19 at Salem Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds 10 ounces. He has a brother, Andrew, 3.
Hillsboro boys' basketball team won the Rupp Tournament in Halstead defeating Andover 38-33 and boosting their record to 10-2 on the season.
The Roxbury State Bank in Roxbury has announced that Ivan Henne, president of the bank, will be retiring. Henne has been with the bank for over 58 years, making his one of the longest careers with one bank in Kansas banking history. Lowell Peachey will be the bank's new president.
Elsie Johnson, Salem Home, will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 in the dinning room at Salem Home. The celebration is hosted by her daughter Delilah Deckert and her daughter and son-in-law Rose and Levi Goossen.
Don Gronenthal was installed Thursday as postmaster of the Lehigh Post Office. He comes to Lehigh from Lincoln, Neb.
