Stacey and Tammy Sanders of Hillsboro announce the birth of their daughter, Stephanie Rose, born Jan. 26 at Salem Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds and 14 ounces. She has one sister, Dianne Kara, 17 months.

Brett Wiebe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wiebe and a senior at Hillsboro High School, has been selected as a member of the Kansas Music Educators Association 1994 State Festival Band.

The Barton County Community College meat judging team competed in the 1994 National Western Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest in Denver this month. Team members competing in the contest included C.J. Dawes of Lehigh. The team placed 10th.

The all-freshmen Coffeyville Community College meats judging team placed fourth overall at the National Western Collegiate contest in Denver. Roxanne Goossen, Hillsboro, led the team by scoring 864 points and placing sixth overall in the contest.

The Hillsboro City Council wasted little time in passing on a county landfill request for more money. For residents, the minimum charge for trash service will be $8.15, up from $6.90. For commercial trash customers, a $3.75 across-the-board increase will be in effect.

The USD 410 Board of Education unanimously agreed to build a new middle school rather than remodel the old structure.
