Hillsboro High School senior Ron Dies Jr., took first place in the welding skills competition, secondary division, at the 1994 VICA Vocational Industrial Clubs of America Kansas state skill Olympics and leadership conference. The conference was held April 14-15 at the Wichita Area Vocational Technical School.

Lyn Loewen of Hillsboro broke the school discus record last Thursday with a throw of 114'6" at the Nightengale Invitational at Halstead.

Richard and Joni Calam of Hillsboro were hired as the new managers of the Hill Crest Motel by owner Timothy Kuo earlier this month. Richard is also a paraprofessional in the special education transition program at Hillsboro High School.

Hillsboro High School seniors Jana Schroeder, Jessica Martens and Stacy Rochelle signed letters of intent to participate in track next year at Tabor College. Martens was a state qualifier in the 800 meters last year. Schroeder holds the javelin record at HHS, and Rochelle throws shot put, discus and javelin.

Roy Just, Tabor College's eighth president, died Monday, April 25. Just served on the faculty from 1950-1955 and at Fresno City College from 1955-1963 Just was president of Tabor College from 1963-1980.
