Members of the Hillsboro FFA captured the top team award in the state wildlife contest held at Wichita Saturday, April 30. By winning the award, the local team has been awarded a week-long all-expense-paid trip to Las Vegas and the Brian Head Ski and Wildlife Resort in the mountains of southern Utah. Members of the team are Todd Becker, Ian Weisbeck, Bud Bolte and Marc Schroeder.
Phyllis Nickel signed a letter of intent to compete in track at Fort Hays State University in Hays. Nickel is the daughter of William and Kala Nickel of Hillsboro.
Michelle Galle of Hillsboro is a member of the Hesston College European Chorale which will present two area concerts. These concerts prelude the chorale's four-week, 15-concert tour to five European countries.
Don and Juanita D'Albini broke ground at the site of the new McDonalds restaurant to be located west of Christian Destiny on D Street. Construction on the restaurant will begin soon and should be complete in early fall.
John M. Dick, senior majoring in pharmacy, son of John and Carol Dick of Hillsboro, has received an undergraduate research award at the University of Kansas for his project "Mitochondrial DNA Gyrase and Quinolone Antibiotics."
Norton Jost of Hillsboro retired from Cooperative Grain and Supply Friday after 37 years of service.
