Gaylord and Peggy Goertzen of Hillsboro will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary Aug. 7 at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church. Gaylord Goertzen and Peggy Blodget were married Aug. 9, 1969, at Bakersfield Mennonite Brethren Church in Bakersfield, Calif.

Mark and Shelley Rooker of Hillsboro announce the birth of their son, Brandon Rooker, born July 18 at Salem Hospital. He weighed nine pounds and was 20 inches long. He has a sister, Tiffany, 3.

This year Hillsboro fans might see a few new names on the fall sports schedule. The Hillsboro Trojans dropped out of the Mid-Kansas League and will be a part of the Mid-Central Activities Association League. MCAA is a two-division league which includes 10 teams. Hillsboro, Moundridge, Halstead, Sterling and Ellinwood are in one division. Hesston, Lyons, Nickerson, Haven, and Smoky Valley are in the other.

Kenton and Nancy Kaufman of Hillsboro, along with daughter Kara, were injured last Thursday while on vacation near Ontario, Ore. Kenton and Nancy remain hospitalized in Ontario, Ore. Both have had surgery and are recuperating. The family is expected to fly home Tuesday.

Hillsboro City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday night to deny a request for de-annexation made by West Winds Limited Partnership. West Winds developers own a small tract of land located on the west edge of town across from the city airport.
