Resident responses to fixing sewer and water problems have not been good, Hillsboro city council members discussed Tuesday night. To date, property owners where problems have been identified have been sent two letters. Of the first 100 letters sent, only 15 people have responded.
Wes and Lovisa Duersken of Lehigh will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house on Sunday, Oct. 10, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. Wes and Lovisa were married Oct. 15, 1943.
Don Frenzen, Richard Nickel, and Dale Franz were elected to serve on the Hillsboro Golf Association board of directors during the association's annual meeting held Sunday, Sept. 26. Remaining on the board are Carl Long, Harvey Ray, and Ken Johnson.
John and Amanda Ewert of Hillsboro will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 17, in the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church with a short program at 2:30 and open house until 4:30 p.m.
The Hillsboro High School football team improved their record last week with a 32-0 shut out over the Remington Broncos Friday night. The Trojan's record now stands at 3-2.
Hillsboro Middle School student Mindy Duerksen had a letter she wrote to the news channel CNN read on the station's current events program "CNN Newsroom" recently. The program, which is focused toward students in grades 5 through 12, asked for students' comments on the recent peace talks between Israel and the PLO. Duerksen's letter, praising the talks, was chosen to be read on the air. Duerksen is the daughter of Pete Duerksen of Hillsboro.
