Volunteers at the Hillsboro Public Library who were honored recently included Jeanne Hamm, 21 hours; Rachel Epp, 66 hours; Betty Bernhardt, 87 hours; Mildred Harding, 137 hours; and Viola Jost, 31hours.

John Beltz of Hillsboro reported a theft, burglary and criminal damage to property at his business, B&B Handyman. A Milwaukee power drill valued at $200 and a pot-bellied wood burning stove valued at $350 were stolen.

To say the Jays' 4-4 football record was an accomplishment is an understatement. One quick look in the record books shows that the Tabor football team has seen many victories in the last decade or so. Since the football program began in 1967, Tabor football's best season was in 1979 when they were 7-3.

Quentin Lee Guhr will graduate from the college of engineering at Kansas Sate University Dec. 11. Guhr is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and the son of Herbert and Doris Guhr of Hillsboro.

Fourth and fifth graders at Hillsboro Elementary School will present "A Christmas Carol" next week. Members of the cast include Jeremy Loewen as Fred; Ryan Jilka as Bob Cratchet, Adam Jilka as Ebeneezer Scrooge, and Jordan Plett as Tiny Tim.

The Tabor women's basketball team ran into some tough competition Saturday when they traveled to Washburn and lost to the Icabods 75-30.

The Hillsboro High School girls' basketball team lost its season opener 48-42 to Nickerson. The junior varsity lost 48-36 to Nickerson, and the freshmen defeated Nickerson 43-30.

The Trojan boys were defeated by Nickerson 61-51. The junior varsity won 59-36.
