Former Hillsboro USD 410 superintendent of schools Dr. Robert C. Brown died Oct. 28. Funeral services will be held Nov. 3 in Cheney. A special memorial service also will be held Nov. 4 at Hillsboro United Methodist Church.

P. Lou Greenhaw, R.Ph., owner of Greenhaw Pharmacy, Hillsboro, has been named a recipient of the Merck Pharmacist Award. The award was established by U.S. Human Health, the U.S. prescription drug unit of Merck & Co., Inc., to recognize professional and civic achievements of pharmacists.

Hillsboro High School Trojan football team won its final game of the season Thursday, defeating Ellinwood 15-6.

Hillsboro's Ian Weisbeck placed 35th out of approximately 100 runners in the sate cross country meet at Wamego Country Club. His official time was 18 minutes 20 seconds.

Kansas Cellular has leased a new 420-foot tower installed two miles east of Marion County Lake. The new tower should provide a much stronger signal in Marion County.

Locally, Marion County voters will only have two races to vote on compared to dozens statewide when they take to the polls Tuesday. Judy Houdyshell, Lincolnville, Democrat, and Jeannine Bateman, Marion, Republican, are both candidates for the position of county treasurer.

Jim Slattery, Topeka/Carol H. Sader, Prairie Village, Democrat, and Bill Graves, Salina/Sheila Frahm, Colby, Republican are candidates Kansas for governor/lieutenant governor.

Kathleen Sebelius, Topeka, is the Democratic candidate for commissioner of insurance. Carla Stovall, Topeka, is the Republican candidate for attorney general.
