The Hillsboro City Council voted 4-0 to deny Asset Recovery's application to amend a special use permit. The amendment would have allowed Asset Recovery to install two rotary reverberatory furnaces and permit them to refine lead for market. An ordinance passed by the council in March of 1990, specifically prohibits the use of these furnaces.

Some very important citizens went to jail to raise money for the American Heart Association. The Cardiac Arrest held last Wednesday at Emprise Bank raised over $2,500.

Hillsboro High School senior Jason Hamm took first place in the Halstead wrestling tournament held last Friday and Saturday.

Nolan Frantz, Hillsboro, was a delegate to the 73rd and last National 4-H Congress held in Orlando, Fla., Dec. 2-7. Over 1,200 delegates representing outstanding youth leaders from all 50 states and Puerto Rico heard about and experienced the 4-H Work force Preparation Program being introduced for the 1990s and beyond.

Data Concepts is a new business in Hillsboro dealing with database programming with medical software. Business owner Ed Burns knows what he is doing. Doctors and hospitals use the software to track patients, billing and insurance.

Outplaying both Canton-Galva and Berean last week, the Goessel High School girls basketball team continues to stay in the top part of the league. The Bluebirds league record is 6-1.
