USD #410 school board members agreed to go for a grant in upgrades designed to cut energy costs at the elementary school. Items discovered by Peak Street Energy, a consulting firm, included: 1)upgrade gym lighting, 2) upgrade general lighting, 3)install occupancy sensors, 4)install storm windows, 5)insulate exterior walls, and 6)upgrade boiler.
The Hillsboro Historical Society sponsored an open house Sunday at the Schaeffler House and the Historical Church on the Tabor College campus. Performances were given all afternoon including the Zion Lutheran children's choir. Those in the Zion Lutheran children's choir are Laura Lindsay, Anne Ryding, Anna Krich, Brandon Luna, Scott Nuss, Derek Mayfield and Tyler Krich.
A cooperative tutoring program has recently been launched involving Tabor College students and students enrolled at World Impact's Leadership Training Center, near Florence. World Impact is an inner-city mission organization. Currently, five young men, ages 18-24, arrive on the Tabor campus twice weekly for one-hour tutoring sessions focusing on basic writing skills. In return, the Tabor students gain valuable teaching experience in a different learning situation.
Hillsboro Middle School sixth grader, Jeremy Loewen, was the USD #410 winner for the International Peace Poster Contest sponsored by the Lions Club.
