Members of the 1995 Leadership Marion County class have been chosen for the new year. Class members for 1995 include Pat Ash, Reuben Feuerborn, Carol Maggard, Pam Meador, Stuart Meador, and Susan Robson, all from Marion; Tom Kaufman, Coleen Koop, and Todd Vogt, all from Hillsboro; Peggy Jay, Goessel; and Brad Putter and Sharon Williams, both from Florence.
County department for the elderly director Noreen Weems announced she has been appointed by Sen. Bob Dole to serve in May at the White House Conference on Aging.
Construction workers on the new Hillsboro Middle School building constructed a pre-cast concrete wall installed to meet fire codes. Work on the new school has stopped for a six-week delay although the section of East Grand will remain closed.
Santa assisted administrative assistant Marsha Setzkorn-Meyer in drawing the lucky winner of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Christmas stocking last Thursday night. Juli Hein won the giveaway worth over $1,000 and donated by local chamber businesses. More than 40 businesses participated in the drawing making it one of the largest giveaways in Hillsboro chamber history.
Say goodbye to the present Cardie Corner. By the end of January, the owners of the Hillsboro quick store and gas stop plan to demolish the current facility and build a new, expanded 92-foot by 36-foot building as part of the expansion.
