One local business planing to double the size of its work force received a helping hand from the city Tuesday night. During the regular Hillsboro city council meeting, owner LaVerne Esau requested a 10-year full tax abatement on ad valorem property taxes for economic development purpose.
The Hillsboro Middle School track team finally got a chance to show its stuff during a track meet on April 15. With Mother Nature agreeing with them, the middle school had its first meet of the season which found them hosting a quadrangular with opponents Halstead, Moundridge and Sedgwick.
The co-op has taken in several loads of milo per day including 250,000 bushels in march. The quality of the milo is poor, but surprisingly better than one might think harvesting after winter.
Pastor Paul D. Miller and his wife, Marilyn, have moved back to Hillsboro and will be continuing the ministry of Christ's Fellowship which they started in 1976 when they resigned from a main line denomination.
Hillsboro was featured recently in the April edition of Kansas Country Living, the official publication of Kansas Electric Cooperative, Inc. The article, "Hillsboro — It Really Is a Land of Honey," featured
descriptions of the community lifestyle and Mennonite heritage.
Easter Sunday dinner guests at the Bob Unruhs in Durham were Leland Kaiser, Galen Unruh and Marty, the Gene Unruh family, Marcella Unruh, Shawn Unruh from Wichita, and Brent Unruh from Manhattan.
