With the construction of Hillsboro's new airport hangar almost complete, Hillsboro pilots will now have hangar space for their plans. The 164 foot by 34 foot building will house five airplanes, and spaces are being rented for $45 a month.

The USD #410 Board of Education has agreed to offer computer education classes to the community with tuition costs only to cover the cost of the instructor. The word processing course will be available starting in January with the possibility of other classes being offered.

In commemoration of their 50th wedding anniversary, Harrison and Helen Pankratz and all of their children and grandchildren were home for Christmas and a weekend of fellowship and recreation in Kansas City. Harrison Pankratz and Helen Friesen were married on June 9, 1942, in Hillsboro.

Tony Epp, son of Paul and Kathy Epp of Hillsboro, has been attending the culinary Institute in New York. Recently, Epp has been serving an internship with three restaurants in Kansas City.

Members of the Hillsboro FFA Chapter of Hillsboro High School conducted a competitive activity in the fall to see which member could find and submit the tallest stalk of Big Bluestem grass. Jeremy Duerksen, son of Pete Duerksen of Hillsboro, and Ryan Peters, son of Van and Linda Peters of rural Lehigh, had the top two entries. Duerksen's entry measured 8' 7". Peters' entry measured 8'8".

Currently, local law makes Hillsboro a "no pig" town; however, one resident would like to see that changed. Carmela Gora recently attended the Hillsboro City Council meeting to request permission that her Vietnamese potbellied pigs be allowed to stay at her resident on Lincoln Street.
