John Dick, Goessel, president of the Cottonwood Crossing chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association, is currently working on repainting nine signs marking where the Santa Fe Trail crossed Marion County.

The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce reported a net profit of $6,745 in 1994 members learned at the chamber annual meeting Monday night. In giving the financial report, Kathy Decker said '94 had been good to the chamber.

After more than a year of silence, the chimes of the Wohlgemuth tower on the Tabor College campus can once again be heard throughout the city of Hillsboro. The Verdin Carillons were silenced early in 1994, when expenses for major repairs became excessive. A new state-of-the-art unit, a radically different electronic system, was installed after being purchased mostly through the gifts from a family in memory of their husband and father.

Hillsboro wrestlers competed against Eureka last Thursday and were defeated 54-9. Kyle Adams and Mitch Goossen were the only Trojans with wins.

The freshmen Trojans defeated Canton-Galva Saturday, 76-54, raising their overall record to 8-1. Micah Ratzlaff led in scoring with 26 points. Nathan Funk followed with 23, Ryan Suderman with 13, Nick Hein with five and Jeff Vogel with four.

The Trojan girls advanced to the championship game Saturday at the Minneapolis Girls' Midseason Basketball Classic but the title remained just out of grasp. Hillsboro lost a close game to Nemaha Valley 55-50 and brought home a second place trophy.

The Salem Hospital board agreed to purchase a building in Canton, which will be used as a clinic. Hillsboro physician Dr. Michael Reeh will begin a medical practice in Canton two days per week as soon as the building is remodeled.
