Hillsboro Elementary School students will be getting a little help crossing two intersections in Hillsboro when crossing guards will be available in about a month. Principal, Pat Call, is working with several civic groups in Hillsboro to provide the service.

Hillsboro will be adding a fourth full-time police officer, thanks to a grant the city recently received. The grant, worth $61,926 over a three-year period, is from the U.S. Department of Justice, COPS Fast program.

Water woes still plague the Lehigh City Council. Just when the problems seem to be corrected, another one surfaces. The latest problem stems from another exposed water line between the city and the well. The pipe froze and took a long time to unfreeze. Meanwhile, the pressure gauge at the pump house broke under the pressure and took several days of manual regulation to get the pumps back to normal operation.

Chad Unrau, Goessel, won the Marion County Spelling Bee last Wednesday.

Out of the top seven individuals last Thursday at the South Central Kansas Poultry Contest, six were from Hillsboro High School. They included Lyn Loewen who was the first place individual. Jenny Funk placed third, Zac Bartel was fourth, Naomi Dewey and Tom Watson tied for fifth and Ryan Peters placed seventh.

Micah Ratzlaff led the Trojans in scoring with 28 points as the HHS freshmen blew past Herington last Monday with a 75-48 victory.

The Hillsboro wrestling team participated in the Andale Tournament Saturday. Kyle Adams earned second place and Mitch Goossen came home with a third place.

The Lady Trojans boosted their MCAA league record to an impressive 8-1 and their overall record to 14-2 with three wins last week over Haven, Halstead and Hesston.
