Almost 350 bicyclists pedaled through Hillsboro June 9 as part of the Biking across Kansas group. The group rode from McPherson to Marion with most of them stopping in Hillsboro for lunch.

A computer on every teacher's desk will be a reality after the USD 410 Board of Education approved an additional $54,172 worth of computer equipment.

Utility Services Assoc. Construction Co., Inc., of Oklahoma City, Okla. began the installation of cable for the Technology Excellence in Education Network (TEEN) June 14 in Herington and Peabody. Two crews will be working at all times with the completion date of July 27.

The city of Hillsboro has received a grant through the Kansas Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program for a $360,000 water project in the area north of downtown and near Salem Hospital and Parkside Homes.

Roland J. (R.J.) Bartel of Hillsboro has been designated a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Clubs International Foundation in recognition of his commitment to serving the world community. Bartel is a member of the Hillsboro Noon Lions Club.

During the city council meeting Tuesday night the council approved an ordinance to annex land for Parkside Homes, Inc., located east of the Parkside addition for the construction of a retirement center.

The city council also approved the usage of a gravel only street in front of a lot being purchased by resident Marguerite Goertz who plans to build a home at the property west of Floral Drive with access through West C Street. The street will be considered a private drive for now until further developments warrant street paving.
