Five USD #410 staff members were honored recently by the district after retiring from their positions. Dr. Robert C. Brown served 14 years as superintendent; James Faul served 13 years as teacher; Paul Jantzen served 33 years as teacher; Melvin Joy served 35 years as teacher; and Gaylord Hamm served as school bus driver for 30 years.

Rachel Schultz of Douglass and Brad Griffith of WaKeeney were married June 6 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Dennis Fast officiating.

Several Marion County students have received degrees from Friends University in Wichita. Students earning under graduate degrees include Shawn Unruh of Durham, Lenna Friesen of Hillsboro, and Sheri Bina of Marion. Joyce Loewen of Hillsboro earned a master's degree.

With the resignation of longtime Hillsboro Senior Center site manager Sam Baerg, Connee Willis has been chosen to take his place. Willis had previously been the activity director at the center.

The 10-year-old baseball team remained undefeated in the Cottonwood Valley League with three victories this past week. On Thursday, Hillsboro defeated Marion Blue with a score of 16-3. C.J. Hill led the team with two hits, including a triple.

Hearth Publishing has announced the release of the book Summer and Shiner by Nolan Carlson. The book is the winner of the 1992 Hearth Award, a state wide contest sponsored by Hearth Publishing in cooperation with the Kansas Authors' Club
