Hillsboro city crews were out in full force Saturday after a big winter storm dumped between eight and 10 inches of snow in the Hillsboro area.

Eric Jones, 1991 graduate of Hillsboro High School, continues to get more time on the court at St. Louis University. Jones transferred to St. Louis after playing basketball at Dodge City Community College last season. Jones is averaging eight minutes in the nine games that St. Louis has played.

Rebecca Wichert, a member of the Tabor College women's basketball team, broke the record books wide open Saturday night, scoring a school record 40 points against Sterling College. Wichert was 16-25 from the field, 8-10 from the line and had 10 rebounds. Tabor lost 63-62.

With two losses last week, the Hillsboro High School boys' basketball team dropped its record to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the MKL. Moundridge defeated Hillsboro 62-40, and Wichita Collegiate beat the Trojans 47-40.

USD #410's grading scale is too high, patron Kathy Washmon reported during Monday night's regular board meeting. Washmon, who lives in rural Hillsboro, has children attending USD 410, and she and another parent, Chris Cederburg, have been circulating a petition requesting the grading scale be lowered.

Linda Peterson was elected chairman of the Marion County Commission. Reorganization of the commission board occurred during the regular Monday meeting.
