Betty Medley of Hillsboro announces the engagement of her daughter Denise Renae Medley to M. Christian Kostelac, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Kostelac of Kansas City. The bride-elect received a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Kansas State University in Manhattan. Her finance is attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

After all the points were tallied, swimmers Mandi Duerksen and Grant Wiens were named the high point overall winners during the Hillsboro Swim Team's annual awards night.

Stacey and Tammy Sanders of Hillsboro announce the birth of their daughter, Dianne Kara, born Aug. 27. She weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and was 19 inches long. Grandparents are Larry and Dianne Heidel of Hillsboro and Larry and Rose Sanders of Broken Arrow, Okla.

Volunteers and members of the local American Legion and Sons of the American Legion worked on the Hillsboro Scout House log cabin. Dean Schroeder serves as the project foreman. Volunteers continue to be needed to assist in finishing the log cabin construction project. Those interested should contact Harry Thye.

Randy and Kerry Stepanek of Hillsboro announce the birth of their son, Jonathan Vaughn, born Aug. 18 at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City. He weighed 8 pounds 4 ounces and was 21 inches long. He has a sister, Heather, 5, and a brother, Aaron, 3. Grandparents are Rev. and Mrs. Charles Priddy of Prairie Village and Rev. and Mrs. Homer Stepanek of Excelsior Springs, Ark.

Life at Salem Home just got better after the addition of the recently purchased aviary. The aviary is located within the nursing home segment in the upstairs family room.
