Several writings of Dr. Richard Kyle, professor of history and religion at Tabor college, have recently been published. Kyle has been a professor at Tabor for 19 years where he also serves as the defensive coordinator for the football team.
Members of the community can try out the new Tabor campus recreational center (CRC) free of charge as of Sept. 15. The building features a walking track, a full-size gymnasium, racquetball courts, an exercise room and equipment.
The Hillsboro Development Corporation held its annual meeting Sept. 8 at the community room in Emprise Bank. Forty stockholders attended. Election of four board members for three-year terms returned Chairman Albert Reimer, Kevin Pankratz, Richard Barkman and Carol Wiebe to the 12-member board. Other members are K.B. Bruce, Leon Suderman, Jim Baker, Eileen Unruh, Lyman Adams, Bob Klein, Mike Kleiber and Marvin G. Jost.
USD 410 Board of Education discussed the use of knee braces by the high school/middle school football teams. Dr. Norman Galle suggested the issue be taken out of board policy and an option for students to play without them with parental consent be established. After visiting with Coach Don Penner, Principal Glen Suppes said Penner would like to keep using the braces.
The USD 410 Board of Education approved the idea of establishing a drill team at the high school after hearing a report from Glen Suppes who said 20 girls have expressed an interest in trying out for the 12-member team which would perform at the half time of home basketball games. Joan Vinduska was approved to serve as sponsor the drill team.
