Construction continues on the eight new tennis courts being built at the Hillsboro Sports Complex west of town. The cement has been poured on all courts which must now "cure" for a month. A red and green rubberized coating will then be added. The courts must be completed by May 6 when Hillsboro High School will host seven schools for the league tennis meet.
The Hillsboro Middle School's new facility is right on schedule as planned in a whirlwind of construction. This is the last year for the old building as demolition should occur in the first week of June. In the fall, sixth, seventh and eighth graders will attend classes in phase one of the new school while construction begins on phase two. The entire project should be completed by February of 1996 at the latest.
Construction has begun on the first duplex in the Park Village senior living community for Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Koop and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Thiessen. Completion should be in three to four months with more duplexes soon to start. When all is said and done, 14 acres will be developed into 66 congregate living apartments and 27 plus duplexes.
Bob Hein defeated incumbent Delores Dalke for the position of mayor last Tuesday 429 - 413, a 16-vote winning margin.
Construction is underway on Phase 1 of West Winds Limited. The new housing addition is located off of West D Street in Hillsboro. Phase 1 will include five homes.
Doug and Colleen Weinbrenner, Hillsboro, announce the birth of their son, Brett Austin. He was born April 6 at Salem Hospital, Hillsboro. He weighed eight pounds, three and one-fourth ounces and was 21 inches long.
Hillsboro's Cameron Greenhaw ended the day with a two-over-par 72 Friday to win the HHS Invitational golf tournament.
