The Hillsboro High School volleyball ended its season 26-7 after being ousted at the state tournament. The Trojans lost to Holcomb 11-15, 8-15; lost to Herington 15-13, 12-15, 11-15; and lost to Hoxie 8-15, 15-12, and 17-15.

Even though George Bush carried Kansas, he lost his bid for the presidency to Gov. Bill Clinton. Clinton won with 286 electoral votes.

After being in the planning stages for more than two years, the beautification project at the Hillsboro city shop located on North Adams Street is well underway with close to 100 trees already in the ground. The project is based on a landscape plan designed by Jim Nighswonger, urban and community forestry program leader for the department of Forestry at Kansas State University.

Dr. David Breese of Hillsboro, worldwide evangelist, TV and radio speaker and author, will be the speaker at a series of evangelistic meetings at Eastmoor United Methodist church Nov. 12 through 15.

Tabor College associate professor of education Dr. Sharon Zenger and her husband Dr. Weldon Zenger of Fort Hays State University have recently published their eighth book, Curriculum Planning: Outcomes Based Accountability.

Tim Unruh sophomore at Hesston College has been named a resident assistant for Kauffman Court. Unruh is the son of Edith Unruh of Hillsboro.

To encourage Hillsboro Middle School students to do good work or good deeds, the staff has instigated a new program called "Trojan Buck" which allows students to receive pencils and even a Pizza Hut dinner with one of their teachers.

Twenty-seven downtown businesses participated in the Trick or Treat Main Street event. Approximately 350 area children turned out to receive treats from local businesses.
