USD 410 will have to make some hard choices concerning making schools accessible for disabled patrons before the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) deadline of Jan. 26, 1995. Board members will have to decide whether to spend money now to update the current schools or build new classroom space to meet the guidelines.
The USD 410 Board of Education voted to proceed into an interlocal cooperative agreement for the creation of the Technology Excellence in Education Network (TEEN) which will invovled Centre, Marion, Peabody, Herington and Hillsboro. TEEN will include the creation of a two-way fiber optic television network.
The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce nominating committee has selected eight people to be on the ballot as nominees for chamber of commerce board members. The candidates are LaVada Hagen of The Hair Place and Tanning Salon; Ken Meisinger of American Family Insurance; Ken Schroeder of Prairie Flower and Garden Shop; Ken Koslowsky of Hillsboro Hardware and Ken Koslowsky Accounting Service; Becky Walsh of State Farm Insurance; Dave Fulton of Hillsboro State Bank; Dennis Fast of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church; and Linden Thiessen of Olde Towne Restaurant.
Douglas Cable Communications, cable supplier for Hillsboro, has donated basic cable television to Hillsboro Elementary School, Hillsboro Middle School, and Hillsboro High School for use in the classroom.
Jamie Hagamen and Cameron Greenhaw will perform with the District 6 honor choir the first weekend in December at the Wichita State University.
