The American Heart Association Kansas Affiliate annual Cardiac Arrest was held Nov. 20 with total donations and pledges raising $1,805. Funds from this event will be used in the state of Kansas to aid in research and education to battle cardiovascular disease.
Members of the Hillsboro High School freshmen/sophomore scholars' bowl team took first place out of 30 teams in the 1-4A division competition in Junction City Nov. 19. The team swept through all rounds with a 1-0 record. Team members are Russell Clark, John Christiansen, Luke Handke, and Jeremy Clark.
Janette Brubacher has been hired at Parkside Homes, Inc., Hillsboro, to serve as the institution's new social service designee. She replaces former social service designee Rene Matz who is currently undergoing an administrator-in-training program at Parkside.
Hillsboro city crews were out bright and early Wednesday morning clearing approximately 4-5 inches of snow from Hillsboro's first white storm of the year.
Roxanne Goossen, daughter of Keith and Karen Goossen of rural Peabody, captured first place individual honors at the South Central Kansas Agriculture Education Meats Conference and Contest at McPherson.
Improvement on Hillsboro's downtown sewer lines moved one step closer during the city council meeting Tuesday night. The project, estimated to cost $383,000, involves slip-lining inside the current, very old sewer lines now is use. Council members agreed to have the engineering firm of Reiss & Goodness, Wichita, proceed with the plans.
