Hillsboro High School debaters Russell Clark and Gene Hiebert placed second at the KSHSAA State 2-Speaker Debate Tournament for class 3-2-1A.

Four members of the Hillsboro High School FFA Chapter participated in the 1993 South Central Kansas District FFA Public Speaking contest hosted by Butler County Community College in El Dorado. Students involved were Jeremy Duerksen, Kendra Hein, Ryan Peters and Tom Watson. Peters captured first place in the extemporaneous public speaking division.

Darren Paul Blochlinger of Hillsboro and a graduate of Hillsboro High School was listed on the dean's list for the 1992 fall term at Huntington College. Blochlinger, a senior, is working toward a bachelor of science degree with a major in elementary education. He is the son of Gene and Judy Blochlinger of Hillsboro.

Hillsboro High School boys' basketball team lost to Andover, 36-53, to take second place in the Adolph Rupp Tournament in Halstead. Darrin Hiebert and Phil Goertzen were named to the all-tournament team.

The Tabor College men's basketball team dropped two Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference games last week. The Jays were defeated by Southwestern College 74-71 and Ottawa 78-104. The Jays are 7-11 overall and 5-4 in KCAC.

The Hillsboro High School girls' basketball team won its opening round game in the Berean Academy Tournament 35-32 over Burrton in overtime. The Trojans are the fourth seed in the tourney.
