Are emus the wave of the future in agriculture? If so, entrepreneurs in the north end of Marion county are getting in on the ground floor of this exotic farming operation. Gail and Marissa Makovec and Larry Bina, own 16 of the birds in a partnership arrangement called Twin Feathers Emu Ranch. The name was chosen because emus' feathers grow in double plumes and because two families are involved in the new business.

Wheat harvest continues in the Hillsboro area despite the constant threat of rain this past weekend. Lyman Adams, general manager of Cooperative Grain and Supply, reported 250,000 bushels of wheat had been taken in at the Hillsboro location. The wheat is averaging 55 pounds per bushel, but it is running anywhere from 36-60 pounds per bushel.
