Triple H Construction workers bulldozed the Cardies Corner building on East D in Hillsboro Thursday, quickly reducing the structure to a pile of rubble. The convenience store was leveled in less than four hours to make room for a new one. Construction has already begun on the new facility which will be almost four times the size of the old structure.
Retiring USD 410 staff members were honored by the district with a dinner Monday. Staff members saying goodbye were band director, Harold Willis, 37 years of service, 10 years at HHS; math instructor, Robert Sextro, 28 years of service at HHS; and cook, Bernice McDowell, 30 years of service.
Currently, county road personnel are searching for money through grants to help meet the estimated $1 million price tag of a complete overlay job, complete with updating bridge railings to state specifications on 13-Mile Road. Currently Marion County has no weight limit on paved roads, but that could change. This could affect both milk producers and grain haulers. While heavy traffic may be one source of the road problems, the number one source of the problem lies at the door of the Kansas weather.
