Hillsboro's new Subway will open soon at the corner of Adams and D Street adjoining Cardies Corner convenience store.
New officers of the Hillsboro FFA Chapter have been busy this summer with a number of activities and planning for the coming school year. Officers are: President Jared Jost, Vice president Tom Watson, Secretary Vanessa Weisbeck, Treasurer Nolan Frantz, Historian Jenny Funk, Reporter Nick Weibert, Parlimentarian Shannon Friesen, and Sentinel Dustin Dalke. Summer activities have centered around monthly regular meetings in which they have been establishing goals for the upcoming year, but have also included participating in state and national level leadership development conferences, judging contests, and coordinating local auction food stands.
Members of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors welcomed West Winds' DeLair and Dona LaDuke to the community last Tuesday during grand opening ceremonies at the new housing development. Ambassadors gave West Winds' developers their first dollar of profit and mayor Bob Hein performed the ribbon-cutting duties to open the streets.
Top readers for each class in the Summer Reading Program include Rachel Alberti, Jessica Hirtler, Jackie Hirtler, and John Vineski, Grant Schneider, Clinton Schneider, and Jodie Hiebert. One-hundred nineteen children read 3,602 books during the six weeks of the "Arts on Parade" summer reading program.
