Newton optometrist Don Stangle entered not guilty pleas to his three charges Monday morning in Marion County District Court. Stangle has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or driving while under the influence with a blood alcohol above the legal limit, and following too close.
The Hillsboro City Council agreed to advertise for a bond sale Oct. 4 in an amount not to exceed $395,000. The money will pay for improvements at the sports complex including: tennis courts, concessions area, legal and underwriting fees plus money for a pool slide.
Students, faculty, and staff at Tabor College are enjoying cafeteria food more than ever this year, thanks to changes Mike Steele and Pioneer College Caterers, the college's new food service, have implemented.
Tabor College enrollment figures show a 14 percent increase for the fall 1994 semester. Head count on the Hillsboro campus is 477, including 435 full-time students and 28 part-time students. An additional 28 students are enrolled at Tabor-College Wichita.
Ernie Luna, Hillsboro, will run in the 17th annual Chicago Marathon Sunday, Oct. 30. Luna started training for the marathon last March. He started by running two miles a day then increased one mile per week and has worked up to 18 miles. His goal is 26 miles in three hours, 30 minutes.
The Hillsboro High School football team scored in the last quarter but it was several touchdowns too late to defeat the Wichita Collegiate team. The Trojans lost 41-7.
The Hillsboro Planning Commission met Tuesday evening and agreed 8-0 to recommend to the city council that the Asset Recovery Corp. amendment to its special use permit be denied.
