Richard and Joni Calam of Hillsboro announce the birth of their son, Douglas Bradford Calam, born Sept. 24 at Salem Hospital. He weighed six pounds 7 1/2 ounces and was 19 inches long. Grandparents are Carl and LaVonne Calam of Hillsboro and Dormer and Lois Richert of Dallas, Ore.

Candidates for the 1993 Hillsboro High School Homecoming king and queen has been announced They are Jamie Hagaman, Megan Ranney, Traci Ratzlaff, Staci Pschigoda, Jessica Martens, Brent Driggers, Danny Klaassen, Adam Kleiber, Ryan Rector and Jeremy Duerksen. The crowning will be on Thursday, Oct. 7, in the HHS gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The candidates will also be a part of the Homecoming parade on Friday.

Out of 15 teams at the South Central Kansas FFA District Land Judging Contest held Sept. 25 near Medicine Lodge, the Hillsboro High School FFA team ranked fifth. Members of the local team were Mike Moutz, Dave Schmidt, and David Unger.

Students at Hillsboro High School will present "Once Upon a Mattress," a variation of the fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea," Nov. 18 and 19.

The Hillsboro High School varsity volleyball team's record is 13-1 for the season. Last Tuesday, HHS hosted the 5th ranked 2A Moundridge Wildcats, winning 1-15, 15-9, and 15-5.
