Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Suderman announce the arrival of a daughter, Wendi Deann, born on May 7. She has one sister, Jill Michelle.
Gene Hanson, former basketball coach at Hillsboro high School, will be Newton High School's new basketball coach beginning in the 1977-78 season. Hanson, a 31-year-old alumnus of Kansas Wesleyan University, will teach physical education at the high school.
State tournament qualifiers in golf for Hillsboro High School are Dale Franz and Jim Schroeder. Trojan track runners, Steve Hein and Ronda Suderman, qualified for the state track meet.
Mrs. Esther Vogt won several prizes in the annual writers contest sponsored by the 4th District Kansas Authors Club convention in Manhattan. She placed first in articles; first in short-short stories; second in short stories; and first honorable mention in story.
Teresa Harms, Kevin Pankratz, Dooz Jost and Greg Krotz were the commencement speakers at the graduation ceremonies. The valedictory was given by Aileen Boese. The salutatory was given by Starla Unruh.
Dale Koop was named Hillsboro Star Chapter Farmer at the Hillsboro Future Farmers of American Parent-Member banquet.
