More than 100 citizens showed up at the Monday night USD 410 Board of Education session to air their views on proposed teacher and program cuts. The board of education took a two-week delay in making a decision on the proposed staffing.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Penner announce the engagement of their daughter Suzanne to Gerald W. Ollenburger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ollenburger of Hillsboro. Suzanne is employed by Drs. Robert Simmons and Paul Franzen at the Newton and Hesston offices. Gerald is employed by Harder Metal Products in Peabody. A spring wedding is planned.
The family of Sergeant First Class Ronald J. Schultz was at Ft. Riley Dec. 20 to receive the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal which were presented to him posthumously. Schultz was a medic assigned to Company D, 506th Infantry Battalion, 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam when he was reported missing in action on July 21, 1970.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kleinsasser returned Jan. 3 from Newark, N.J., where they visited with their children, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Klassen. The Klassens are working with World Impact. Together they went sightseeing in New York City for several days.
Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Boothe were honored on their 62nd wedding anniversary Jan. 7 with a family open house at the R.V. Boothe home in Wichita.
Alvin and Arlene Hett announce the birth of a son, Kevin, born Jan. 5 at Salem Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds and 14 1/2 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. He joins two sisters, Audrey, 5 years, and Suzanne, 19 1/2 months. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Peters and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hett.
