James Stotts, social studies instructor at Hillsboro High School since 1967, resigned his position Jan. 10. Stotts' resignation was approved by the board. Stotts plans to enter private business as a sales representative for Round-up Enterprises.
More snow plus hefty gusts of wind over the weekend brought the Hillsboro area to a standstill — almost. Although the new snow officially measured only two inches, it topped a previous four-inch snow.
Randy Hagen was named assistant manager at Vogt's IGA. Hagen served as assistant manager several years ago while attending Tabor College. Hagen worked for Bartel Construction for the past 1 1/2 years.
Hillsboro High School basketball sweetheart candidates are LaVon Schellenberg, Becky Suderman, Debbie Helmer, Krista Pankratz, and Kay Bartel. The Sweetheart will be crowned at a ceremony Friday night.
The installation of new officers for the Cottonwood Valley Young Farm Wives was held Jan. 11 at the Marion City Building. The president is Vi Klassen; vice -president, Sharon Boese; secretary, Ruth Kremeier; treasurer, Brenda Enns; and reporter, Vickie Kraus.
Finances continued to be the dominant problem for USD 410 school district as well as Tabor college in 1978. Faced with declining enrollment and increasing costs, USD 410 administrators proposed a cut of 10-12 staff positions early in 1979. The proposal has met with mixed opinion from students, parents, patrons and teachers within the district.
Approval was given to a $12,402.50 budget for 1978 at the special meting of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Jan. 11. The budget reflects a decrease of $1,200 from last year's budget.
