Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Duerksen will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house on March 18 at the Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro.

Kelly Groening, son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Groening of Hillsboro, has been recognized for the Gamma Phi Alpha award during the 1978 fall semester at Emporia State University.

A familiar face returned to the Hillsboro business scene the past week. Ray Cornelsen is back at the Real Estate Center on a full-time basis. Cornelsen has served as real estate broker for the firm since he founded it nearly 25 years ago.

Gary Myers is enjoying his first year of coaching at Tabor College. His women's basketball team is having a good season. Soon he will begin preparing for the baseball season.

Hillsboro Junior High roundball has ended for another year. The boys claimed a 7-4 overall record taking second place in the Flint Hills League tourney, while the girls posted a 5-6 record and a fourth place finish in the tourney.

Hillsboro High School girls' basketball team advanced to the semifinal round of sub-state with a 44-31 victory over Alma Monday night. Hillsboro will play St. Mary's on Thursday. If the team wins on Thursday, it will play in the championship game in Herington on Saturday.

The boys' basketball team defeated Leon Bluestem 61-30. They will play Marion on Friday. In their last match-up, the Trojans beat the Warriors 78-75. The team must beat Marion to make it into the championship game on Saturday.
